In what may be one of the biggest political upsets in recent history, US House of Representatives Majority Leader Eric Cantor(R-VA) seems to have lost the District 7 primary battle to Tea Party challenger David Brat. With 87% of precincts reporting, Brat leads Cantor 56% to 44%–a huge blow to the uberconservative Congressman.
Politico reporter Jake Sherman tweeted live from Cantor headquarters:
One must wonder, as it is difficult to edge to the right of Eric Cantor, exactly how right-wing the GOP expects its candidates to be. Cantor recently has been taking flack from the right-wing because of his support for a path to citizenship for children of immigrants and his outreach efforts to black communities–both of which Cantor’s opponent used to demonize him.
