Two people are dead tonight after a double homicide occurred at an apartment complex on Staten Island. A woman and her son were fatally shot in the head right outside their home. Investigators believe 49-year old Anthony Morales is responsible for the deaths of 47-year old Idelle Rivera and her son 21-year old Anthony Rivera just before 6:15 tonight.
Anthony Rivera was a mechanic who fixed cars from home; it is believed the shooting took place over a dispute regarding work on a vehicle. Idelle Rivera, fearing for her child’s life, ran outside when she heard gunshots. She was met with gunfire and was killed with one gunshot to the head. Anthony Rivera was shot three times.
Another man was on the scene when shots rang out; he was working on a car with Rivera just before he was fatally shot. That man was shot in the leg and was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Sister Rochelle Rivera said this to the media:
“Nobody should have to lose a mother. Nobody should have to lose a kid for senseless violence.”
According to ABC7NY:
“Police say Morales was wearing a black hooded sweater, blue jeans and a black knit cap and that he possibly fled in a dark-colored Hyundai Accent or a Honda with Pennsylvania plates. A gun and shell casings were recovered, but it is unclear if the gun was the murder weapon.”
Rochelle Rivera said this about the man who killed her loved ones:
“He’s a coward, and I want them to catch him so bad. Come forward, because you’re gonna get caught. You’re gonna get caught.”
