With all the right-wing nonsense surrounding Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, who was recently released from Taliban captivity in exchange for five Guantanamo Bay detainees, it’s important to stick to the facts. While we have been hearing that Bergdahl willfully deserted and was palling around with terrorists, an anonymous official has confirmed that this could not be further from the truth.
A senior Army official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told the Associated Press that Bergdahl has been very cooperative, and has made no admissions that could be used against him.
So far, the investigation has focused on the time since he was captured. Bergdahl has not yet been interviewed by the two-star general appointed last week to investigate, but Bergdahl has not been read his rights and has not asked for a lawyer.
