A writer and mother puts a human face on the Obamacare debate.
Janine Urbaniak’s sixteen-year-old son Mason was probably born with a brain tumor. It was finally diagnosed but could not be removed because the malignant matter could not be separated from some essential parts of the brain.
The roster of medical problems he suffered and will continue to face is long. Since the initial diagnosis, her son continued to function like a typical teenager, in between chemotherapy and hospital stays.
Three years ago, Mason had a massive cerebral hemorrhage. He needed several surgeries and extensive medical care.
This is what Obamacare is doing for just this one family:
- Mason’s parents can keep him on their health plan until he is 26 years old.
- Even with his level of an existing condition, he can find his own coverage.
- The family no longer have to worry about a financial ceiling of benefits provided.
- They don’t have to worry about losing their current coverage and not being “insurable” because of Mason’s history.
Mason’s courage and journey is only one story. Congress simply needs to get out of the way of Obamacare.
For the political party that claims life is sacred, the opposition to universal health care is beyond hypocritical.
