Several weeks ago, Brazil’s “Free Fare Movement” started. Demonstrators began the movement by organizing protests against an increase in public-transit fares in several Brazilian cities. On June 13th in Brazil’s biggest city, Sao Paulo, a huge protest snowballed out of control and over 100 people were injured by military police. Now the country is dealing with far-reaching upheaval that has ballooned well beyond the original issue of transit fare, resulting in huge gatherings involving hundreds of thousands of disgruntled Brazilian citizens protesting issues like police violence, government spending and political corruption.
Watch what happens when one incredibly brave Brazilian police officer defies his superior and refuses an order. Imagine what would happen if more people stood up and did what’s right, even in the face of personal loss.
UPDATE: A native Brazilian left this comment on our Facebook page: “The commander does not say anything about steering a car into the crowd. Everything else is accurate, but the opening comments on this video are misleading.”
