The right is getting desperate with their approval ratings dropping like a rock since the government shutdown.
Fox News contributor, Dr. Marc Siegel said in an appearance on Sean Hannity’s show that “there is too much health insurance, it covers too much. Too many people have it and they can’t get into my office to see me. I’m full, I’m busy struggling with electronic health records. I can’t see all these people . There’s a shortage of doctors. So what are they going to do? They’re gonna pay us less.”
Apparently, Siegal has never heard of the Wall Drug Store philosophy which maintains that it is better to make a little money from a lot of people than to make a lot of money from a few people. Following that philosophy in the end you will make more money.
That brings up another problem with his statement. The payment that doctors now receive for treating those without insurance and who cannot pay is almost nothing. To say that he will make less if everyone is insured is disingenuous at best and an outright lie at the worst.
Of course he’s also tap-dancing past the fact that doctors in the U.S. are the highest paid in the world, by far. That is another factor in the high cost of insurance which has kept it out of reach of so many who do not have coverage through an employer.
With disapproval of Congressional Republicans at 54% they and their supporters at Fox might want to think twice about this kind of disingenuous attack on Obamacare.
While polls still show that 56% do not approve of that law, 38% of those who disapprove do so because they think it is too liberal while 12% think that it is not liberal enough. When that is taken into account along with those who support it as is, the law actually has 53% who either support it as is or want it to be more liberal.
Of course this sort of dishonesty is nothing new at Fox and in particular on the part of Hannity who recently had three couples on his show whose stories of being harmed by Obamacare turned out to be total fabrications when actually fact checked.
