Bill Nye: Please Don’t Teach Creationism to Kids – We NEED Them!

It’s a well known fact that the Tea Party is anti-science. It doesn’t really matter what scientific discipline on which one examines the TEA/GOP position, they’re always incorrect, ignorant liars. In biology we have complete idiots like “legitimate rape” Todd Akin, and Science Committee member Phil Gingrey (R-GA) who defended Akin saying, “I’ve delivered lots of babies, and I know about these things. It is true. We tell infertile couples all the time that are having trouble conceiving because of the woman not ovulating, ‘Just relax. Drink a glass of wine. And don’t be so tense and uptight because all that adrenaline can cause you not to ovulate.’ So he was partially right wasn’t he?”

Believe it or not, the stupid takes a far more ridiculous and sinister turn with Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA) who said, “All that stuff I was taught about evolution and embryology and the Big Bang Theory, all that is lies straight from the pit of Hell. And it’s lies to try to keep me and all the folks who were taught that from understanding that they need a savior.”

There’s no savior from that kind of stupidity.

Enter super genius Bill Nye!

If grownups want to deny evolution and live in your world that’s completely inconsistent with everything we observe in the universe, that’s fine, but don’t make your kids do it because we need them.

What else would you expect?  Bill Nye was a student of Carl Sagan!

Reproof for the mockers, wisdom for the called.

    Exodus 20:11
For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day, and hallowed it.

    Romans 5:12
Whereby, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for all have sinned.

    Matthew 24:35
    The Lord Jesus said,
Heaven and Earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

    2 Peter 3:10
But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

    Dear sinners,
You will not be debating creation vs evolution forever, your time on earth is running out.
The Bible, God’s word to mankind states in Amos 4:12, …Prepare to meet thy God…
If this was your last day on earth, where will your soul be in eternity? There are only two places the Bible speaks about, heaven for the redeemed, and hell for the lost.

    John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believers in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Sinner saved by God’s mercy, Romans 5:6, John 19:30

Mike, I don’t know why you keep quoting something that has nothing to do with this discussion. We are discussing science, not religion. Try to keep up.

That’s nice, Mike. Now run along. The adults are busy.

Correction of typo in 2 Peter 3:3 should read, “walking after their own lusts.”

    • https://www.facebook.com/peter.naus.12 Peter Naus

Mike, the whole of 2 Peter is a typo.

This is another of the 13 books in your new testament that are known to be forgeries perpetrated by people just like yourself.

If you don’t believe me, check with your pastor. They were taught why this book was forged, and when, as part of their doctorate in divinity. I can’t begin to imagine why they didn’t tell you this.

So please don’t spout your 4th-century anonymous christian deliberate fraudulent crap.

And perhaps if you read the rest of the book, instead of memorising the most popular quotations, you’d become an atheist too.

Reproof for the mockers, wisdom for the called.

    Romans 1:20-22
For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

    2 Peter 3:3
Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lists

    Luke 13:3,5
I tell you, Nay: except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

    Acts 16:31
…, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved,…

    • Perry

Oh, Mike. Great that you are religious. However, many people aren’t and what you just wrote came over to us as “Blah, blah, blah.” As early as a few hundred years ago your religion claimed the sun orbited the earth. Now you want us to believe a book written one thousand years ago explains the history and science of the earth? That man lived at the same time as dinosaurs? Please stop drinking the kool-aide and try to listen to people smarter than you. I’m thinking much, much smarter.

  • Meg Waldron

Sorry, Dan- but any adult who says “their destined to be retarded” fits that same bill quite nicely. Weren’t you taught, along with creationism, that the contraction for “they are” is THEY’RE??? You’re not helping your cause.

  • Dan

So “teabagger brats” (real mature description) won’t be an asset to the world if they were taught creation? Evolution can be torn apart just as easily scientifically. The problem is closed minded people refuse to look at facts pertaining to the holes in evolutionary THEORY, which it still is by the way. For centuries creationist have been productive members of society. It’s morons like many of you that believe if a person is taught creationism their destined to be retarded.

    • Jason

Dan, ” Evolution can be torn apart just as easily scientifically. ”

Ok Dan – you provide one peer-reviewed scientific article that “tears apart” evolution. I’ll wait.

Dan, “The problem is closed minded people refuse to look at facts pertaining to the holes in evolutionary THEORY, which it still is by the way.”

The BEST you think you can do is TRY to exploit what you think are gaps in our current understanding. This is not positive evidence for the creationist delusion. There is ZERO, ZERO scientific evidence anywhere in the universe for “god” – and nowhere in biology is there any evidence either.

A “theory” now you’re REALLY showing how ignorant you are. FYI, idiot:

You’ve been told that “evolution is just a theory”, a guess, a hunch, and not a fact, not proven. You’ve been misled. Keep reading, and in less than two minutes from now you’ll know that you’ve been misinformed. We’re not going to try and change your mind about evolution. We just want to point out that “it’s just a theory” is not a valid argument.

The Theory of Evolution is a theory, but guess what? When scientists use the word theory, it has a different meaning to normal everyday use.1 That’s right, it all comes down to the multiple meanings of the word theory. If you said to a scientist that you didn’t believe in evolution because it was “just a theory”, they’d probably be a bit puzzled.

In everyday use, theory means a guess or a hunch, something that maybe needs proof. In science, a theory is not a guess, not a hunch. It’s a well-substantiated, well-supported, well-documented explanation for our observations.2 It ties together all the facts about something, providing an explanation that fits all the observations and can be used to make predictions. In science, theory is the ultimate goal, the explanation. It’s as close to proven as anything in science can be.

Some people think that in science, you have a theory, and once it’s proven, it becomes a law. That’s not how it works. In science, we collect facts, or observations, we use laws to describe them, and a theory to explain them. You don’t promote a theory to a law by proving it. A theory never becomes a law.

Holes? LMAO! Provide scientific evidence for your god. You’ll need a testable, falsifiable hypothesis – then you’ll need to provide some peer-reviewed published scientific papers showing that you’re right.

Dan ” For centuries creationist have been productive members of society”

Straw man, non sequitur. Creationism has contributed nothing to society.

Dan “It’s morons like many of you that believe if a person is taught creationism their destined to be retarded.”

When you believe something with no evidence, and ignore all available evidence which contradicts your faith – you are deluded.

    • Steve

Hi, Dan. Evolution is “still” a theory because that’s what science does: it proceeds based upon the best information available at a given point. Only absolutists claim that the inability to answer every single possible objection (no matter how inane) constitutes a failure.

And when and if the overwhelming weight of evidence moves in a different direction, science changes its tune–its operational paradigms. That’s a little notion called “intellectual integrity”–something religious dogma is impervious to, since the latter has its Truth up front, forever and always, and thus must cherry-pick only the fragmentary details that seem to bolster its case.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000907279043 John Baker

What do you actually know about evolution, Dan? I’m guessing next to nothing.

  • Michaelah Keshvarzi

Well, if you watched that show about that family with 20 kids, the Duggers, you’d know their boys are destined for “local small business” ( like selling used cars like his dad did) and their daughters will marry comparable young men like their brothers and welcome every conception nature offers.
Funny they have NO PROBLEM accepting all the advanced medical care they can get their hands on to save a preemie and her overbred mother. But they never tell their kids, “wouldn’t you like to do medicine? A nice non-controversial science?” SOOO unAmerican! No ambition, I’m sure god doesn’t approve.

    Repeat after me:
Lesson one: would you like fries with that?
    Lesson two: paper or plastic?

    • LateNight

Looks like we’ll have a lot of teenagers and early 20’s fully qualified to work at mcDonald’s and grocery store checkouts… maybe enough coming out of the red states to supply the entire country with minimum knowledge, minimum wage knuckle-draggers.

That means that the kids from the blue states who actually get a decent education can take all the management jobs and be able to move out of their parents’ basement

      • Perry

  • Ted

Creationism is appropriate for children in the same way that storks and Santa Claus are when they are young. But then they start to grow up and we put the fairy tales behind us and start to teach children about the beautiful and wondrous truths of this world.

  • LateNight

I can just see these teabagger brats trying to get into an Ivy League college in a few years… “Oh, you went to a Christian church run school in Texas (or Oklahoma, or Tennessee, or one of the other red states), did you? Can you tell me what Charles Darwin was known for? What is the approximate age of the Earth? Approximately how many years ago did the dinosaurs die off? What was the cause of their die off? What was the highest level of mathematics you studied?”

i’m sorry, you don’t have the academic education necessary to be successful at Harvard (or Yale or Princeton, or Stanford). I suggest you spend a couple of years of intensive study at a junior college in California or New York, and learn what you should have learned in high school. Oh, you don’t want to do that? Then I suggest you go on back to Texas (or wherever) and find a job digging ditches or herding cattle.

  • Perry

I cannot understand this utter stupidity on the part of Teapublican morons who dismiss evolution, science and scientific research. Why do they want their children to grow up devoid of knowledge? I can see that Teapublican leaders would want unintelligent voters to believe their lies and vote how they are told. I can see that corporate management would want unintelligent yet trainable employees for cheap labor. But why would a parent want to do that to their child? Wouldn’t a parent want the best education for their child? An education that would help them survive and thrive as adults? And how do these Teapublican leaders think the rest of the world will view the United States when we teach rejection of scientific thought? Do they care that we will be the laughing stock of the world?
