It’s a well known fact that the Tea Party is anti-science. It doesn’t really matter what scientific discipline on which one examines the TEA/GOP position, they’re always incorrect, ignorant liars. In biology we have complete idiots like “legitimate rape” Todd Akin, and Science Committee member Phil Gingrey (R-GA) who defended Akin saying, “I’ve delivered lots of babies, and I know about these things. It is true. We tell infertile couples all the time that are having trouble conceiving because of the woman not ovulating, ‘Just relax. Drink a glass of wine. And don’t be so tense and uptight because all that adrenaline can cause you not to ovulate.’ So he was partially right wasn’t he?”
Believe it or not, the stupid takes a far more ridiculous and sinister turn with Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA) who said, “All that stuff I was taught about evolution and embryology and the Big Bang Theory, all that is lies straight from the pit of Hell. And it’s lies to try to keep me and all the folks who were taught that from understanding that they need a savior.”
There’s no savior from that kind of stupidity. From the TEAvangelical perspective, science is just a liberal view, or liberal opinion. These Tea Party morons are too stupid to see that they’re missing links between pond scum and humans! These people shouldn’t be in any position in which they could influence the education of our children, or science policy in any way.
Enter super genius Bill Nye!
If grownups want to deny evolution and live in your world that’s completely inconsistent with everything we observe in the universe, that’s fine, but don’t make your kids do it because we need them.
What else would you expect? Bill Nye was a student of Carl Sagan!
