In biology we have complete idiots like “legitimate rape” Todd Akin, and Science Committee member Phil Gingrey (R-GA) who defended Akin saying, “I’ve delivered lots of babies, and I know about these things. It is true. We tell infertile couples all the time that are having trouble conceiving because of the woman not ovulating, ‘Just relax. Drink a glass of wine. And don’t be so tense and uptight because all that adrenaline can cause you not to ovulate.’ So he was partially right wasn’t he?”

Hi, Dan. Evolution is “still” a theory because that’s what science does: it proceeds based upon the best information available at a given point. Only absolutists claim that the inability to answer every single possible objection (no matter how inane) constitutes a failure.
And when and if the overwhelming weight of evidence moves in a different direction, science changes its tune–its operational paradigms. That’s a little notion called “intellectual integrity”–something religious dogma is impervious to, since the latter has its Truth up front, forever and always, and thus must cherry-pick only the fragmentary details that seem to bolster its case.

I can see that Teapublican leaders would want unintelligent voters to believe their lies and vote how they are told. I can see that corporate management would want unintelligent yet trainable employees for cheap labor. But why would a parent want to do that to their child?
