On his HBO show Real Time this week, Bill Maher noted how the results of the 2014 Election was actually the “second most depressing story of the week.”
The first was a press release put out by a U.N. panel of scientists that reaffirmed “human influence on the climate system is clear,” adding that we’re are looking at an “unprecedented” amount if carbon in the atmosphere – more than it has been in at least “800,000 years.”
“So of course, what do the geniuses in America do?” Maher asked. “They elect a bunch of climate deniers.”
Maher then showed a comparison of climate change-concerned candidates who were voted out and replaced by conservative climate change deniers, along with the pseudo-scientific statements that affirm their ignorance on the subject.
“You have to be ashamed that these people are on your team,” Maher said, turning a conservative panelist on the show. “Please tell me, you’re ashamed these people are on your team.”
