Have you ever wondered about President Barack Obama’s secret of success? HBO comedian Bill Maher hits the nail on the head.
When Obama leaves the White House, pundits and future historians will wax eloquent on the president’s unique qualities, on how he was the right person at the right time, his smarts, his hard work, and how he road the zeitgeist to transcend racism and become America’s first black president.
But, unfortunately for us, a lot still boils down to Maher’s astute analysis: Obama is good at being patient with stupid white people. In fact, being patient with stupid white people may prove the secret of success for all of us.
“When you grow up black in America, you have to learn how to be patient with stupid white people. And, folks? That is a lot of what government is, no matter what color you are: Being patient with stupid white people.”
Maher then goes on to hilariously compare the president’s interactions with the likes of John Boehner and Mitch McConnell to those of an exceptionally patient special education teacher with his students.
“Did you ever see President Obama when he comes out of a meeting with Mitch McConnell or John Boehner, these mental giants he has to work with? He always tries to put a positive spin on it. He praises them whenever it’s at all appropriate. He gently criticizes when it’s absolutely necessary. It’s like watching a really good special ed teacher.”
