Last Friday on Real Time, Bill Maher went after the climate deniers who won in last week’s elections using their own inane remarks to mock them and their denial of scientific facts.
“You have to be ashamed these people are on your team,” he said turning to GOP strategist Kristen Soltis. “Please tell me you’re ashamed these people are on your team.”
Soltis attempted to defend climate deniers by pointing to Cory Gardner who she said ran a campaign ad standing in front of a wind farm while calling for an expansion of green energy projects.
“You can actually find a lot of Republicans who want to see us come up with new ways,” she began, breaking down laughing, suggesting that she didn’t believe her own words.
As she continued to insist that half of Republicans believe in climate change and want to do something about it, she was interrupted by Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) who said, “Not in the United States Congress.”
“It’s not that these Republicans are dumb,” Sanders said, “They get huge sums of money from the Koch brothers and from the fossil fuel industry and they are not going to stand up to the people who contribute to their campaigns.”
