Back in August, AATTP ran a disturbing story regarding police detective Kat Cooper, a woman whose family belonged to a Tennessee church for 60 years and was forced to leave because Kat supported legislation to provide benefits to same-sex couples.
Just about 4 months after the incident, the police detective, who married her wife Krista in Maryland earlier this year, is still fighting to provide benefits and rights for lesbian and gay couples, but because of her strong compassion and commitment, Cooper is now receiving threatening letters in the mail:
Cooper posted on her Facebook page:
“I think the individual who wrote the letter is pitiful, and it is very sad for countless reasons. It’s not even necessary for me to state more. Nonetheless, it is a clear depiction of how hate and ignorance fuels violence and discrimination. Something we all need to be highly aware of at this time.”
Although the letter looks like it was written by a drunken 5-year-old, the message is clear. Unfortunately, there are still some people in this world who are afraid to accept that the Bible does not dictate the lives or sexual orientation of everyone.
