When a babysitter in Ferndale, Washington told police the house she was watching was robbed by some “armed black men,” 4-year-old Abby Dean informed the officers that the robbers had in fact been white. It wasn’t long before the sitter admitted the whole robbery had been set-up by her and her boyfriend.
Last week, Abby and her babysitter were home alone when two armed men entered the residence. “They told us to get out of the house cause they wanted to steal stuff,” Abby said. “The bad guys stole my kitty bank. They stole my iPod. They also stole my Xbox and my Wii.” One of the men, it turns out, was actually the sitter’s boyfriend. When police arrived they were informed by the racist 17-year-old that the thieves had actually been some black dudes, and one conveniently looked like the next door neighbor, Cody Oaks. Oaks was arrested and subjected to hours of police interrogation.
Luckily for Oaks young Abby had some corrections to the sitter’s story. “It wasn’t the right skin color” she said, informing police that the robbers had in fact been white. When officers questioned the sitter about Abby’s statements, the ruse quickly fell apart and she confessed that she and her boyfriend had set it all up.
Thanks to her courage to speak up against her sitter, Abby’s things have been returned. “They got it back because of me being the superhero.”
