Meet Tim Harris, owner of Tim’s Place–a New Mexico restaurant that could quite possibly be the friendliest restaurant ever. Tim is perhaps the country’s only restaurant owner with Down’s Syndrome, and he loves to serve great food to his customers. However, the most important part of every meal is the love with which it is served.
Tim’s Place serves up delicious meals–and customers receive a free hug with every meal. He’s kind to his staff, wonderful to his customers, and seems to be an all-around good guy. Tim explains that “When I was a kid, I wanted to own a restaurant, and I asked my dad to help me out.”
“When he was about 14 years old he told us that someday he was going to own a restaurant. After we all gulped and gasped, we began to take him seriously,” said Keith Harris, Tim’s father. “And the result is history in the making.”
Tim, a Special Olympic athlete who has won “more medals than Michael Phelps,” loves feeding his customers, but his favorite part of it all is the people themselves. “My favorite part of all is the people coming through the front door,” Tim said. “The hugs are way more important than the food.” According to a sign, Tim has given over 40,000 hugs in his time as owner of the restaurant–that’s a lot of love!
Tim’s place really is, as claimed, “The World’s Friendliest Restaurant!”
