The NRA tells us the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with gun, but how are you supposed to tell the difference?
Well some Kansas City, Missouri residents had to decide just that was a man armed with firearm was walking around the local Wal-Mart. A shopper called the police about a man walking around the store armed and also reported the incident to the store manager.
However in Missouri, open carry is completely legal and legal without a permit or training.
Another shopper in the store said if they had seen the man they would have called the police too.
“You don’t want your kids around that,” said George Rolf. “There’s a lot of people out shopping, especially in a place like this. Everybody comes to Walmart. It’s like a family store.”
The store manager did ask them man to put his gun in his car as it was making shoppers uncomfortable and said the man was in the process of doing so when the cops arrived on the scene.
Local news station KMBC asked Kevin Jamison of the Western Missouri Shooters Alliance about people carrying weapons around in such a manner and he said that while open carry is legal, it doesn’t mean it’s always a good idea.
“The reality is that people have been conditioned that folks like me are just out to kill them, kill everybody. That there’s going to be blood in the streets,” Jamison said.
He was concerned that carrying openly in such an environment will make people more afraid of guns and does nothing to help the second amendment rights of citizens.
Since the gun debate has heated up in the US, open carry has become a national phenomenon and stores are forced to either allow it or come out against it, pitting a battle between stores and gun rights advocates on both sides of the regulation fence.
