Sometimes it seems that there are almost no good people left in the world and then something happens to restore your faith in humanity and remind you that, in fact, there are more good people in the world than there are bad ones. The bad ones just draw more attention, while the good ones often prefer to remain anonymous — like the customer who brightened a somewhat bad day for Ashley England and her family when they went out to dinner in China Grove, NC last Friday.
The England family includes 8-year-old Riley who is a special needs child. He has undergone several surgeries for epilepsy and is non-verbal. Riley began to “get rowdy” and as England told reporters, “The past few weeks have been very hard and trying for us – especially with public outings,” and she was concerned that he was disturbing other patrons. Until a teary eyed waitress approached their table to tell them that another diner had paid their check and asked her to deliver a note to them. The note read simply, “God only gives special children to special people.”
England said that there was no way their benefactor could have known the trials the family had been through in recent weeks or how much it meant to them to have a stranger send those words of encouragement but she seemed to have summed it up very well when she said, “To have someone do that small act towards us shows that some people absolutely understand what we are going through and how hard it is to face the public sometimes. They made me cry, blessed me more than they know – I felt like out of all the rude negative comments that we are faced with – these outweighs them. The people who care!” As long as there are people like this in the world hope lives.
