Posting on his blog on Monday, Allen West wondered what the country was to do with a “lawless” President who was “actively putting our citizens in harm’s way.” His post attacks the President on every front he could imagine, and his imagination was running wild… Complete with visions of wild eyed Muslim extremists running the Department of Homeland Security, and planes and buses full of immigrant children being dispersed to all corners of the nation in under cover of darkness.
West is most concerned about the “invasion” of children from Central America. He writes that of all of the terrible things Obama has done, none is so dastardly as his “apparent consent to the dissolution of our southern border — and the erosion of our national sovereignty – with abject disregard for state’s rights.”
“Illegal immigrant children are being quietly dumped in states without the states’ knowledge or consent,” he says.
While there is a grain of truth to his claim — the immigrant children do have to go somewhere, and the law bans us from sending them back even if that were advisable — West distorts that truth beyond recognition. These children, in many cases, are sent to states where they have family already in the country legally. In other cases, they are being cared for by charitable organizations which have agreed to assist in handling the large numbers pouring into the country and straining government facilities to the limit in recent weeks.
West quotes a report from Fox News that said, “elected officials in two states far from the U.S.-Mexico border have claimed that the Obama administration has resettled hundreds of unaccompanied illegal immigrant children without adequate notice and has refused to detail the exact locations where the children are being kept.”
Unlike the report that he quotes however West omits the fact that these children are entitled to a hearing to determine whether they should be granted asylum — a process which can take up to two years. They are free to remain in the country at least until their cases are decided. Nor does West note that the law prohibits the government from releasing their personal information.
West wants us all to know that he is concerned for the safety of these children though as he decries the fact that more than 700 have been sent to the Chicago area while the President says, “nothing about the crisis of gun violence in his home city,” even as he “covertly” sends these children into harm’s way:
“Sen. Mark Kirk, R-Ill., told Fox News Friday that he did not know the exact locations of the facilities where the children were being kept, and stated his belief that the White House did not want the children’s living conditions to be made public. ‘My worry is the administration doesn’t want people to know what the condition of these place are or how these kids are being treated in detention,’ Kirk said. ‘I can’t explain the incompetence of the Obama administration.’But as I’ve said before, I no longer believe it’s incompetence. It’s purposeful.”
