Thom Hartmann talks with U.S. Congressman Alan Grayson (D-FL) about President Obama’s budget proposal, which includes cuts to Social Security.
“I started out talking about Jude Wanninski and how, you know, back in the 70’s he proposed that some day he’d get a democrat to shoot Santa Claus, you know, – the Santa Claus of Social Security. All the republicans except Reagan laughed at him….What am I missing here?”
Grayson came out swinging as usual saying,
“The President is wrong. I don’t know how else to put this, and I certainly take no pleasure in saying that. He’s my president, I voted for him twice. He’s the leader of my party. But he’s wrong. And he’s making a serious strategic mistake.“
Grayson goes on to debunk the lie that we are somehow miscalculating the cost of living increases for Social Security.
“First, on the merit, this is a bad policy – on several levels. First, there is no evidence that we are actually under-calculating the cost of living increases that are provided to seniors and veterans. There’s no evidence of that….On the merits it’s wrong, it’s not true that seniors are somehow getting windfalls from the cost of living increases, they went for two years without one…”
