A Munford, Alabama man is now behind bars after a bizarre murder plot went wrong. 29-year-old Allen Morgan became convinced that his neighbor, Clifford Mosley, had raped his wife.
Morgan is an Iraq war veteran and suffers from PTSD.
He believed Mosley was guilty because he ran away when Morgan fired “multiple rounds of ammunition” at him in the street, according to the FBI complaint. Since Mosley did not stick around to reason with him, or fight back, the only logical conclusion would be that he did it…right?
Morgan told someone that he wanted Mosley killed. That person contacted the FBI.
On August 22, the FBI got in touch with Morgan by phone, posing as the KKK. Allen very enthusiastically described how he wanted it done:
“I want this man hung from a tree like he is an animal. I want his dick cut off and I want him cut…You’re a hunting man right? … I want him hung from a tree and gutted and left him hung in that tree. … That’s how I want him to die. Die a slow and painful death.”
Morgan and the “KKK member” agreed to meet three days hence at a motel in Oxford to discuss payment. Morgan assured the agent that he and his wife would both have alibis arranged during the time the murder was to take place — his wife was hospitalized, and he would make an appointment at the VA hospital.
He offered a watch, necklace, and gun as payment and provided a map to his neighbor’s home at the hotel meeting before being arrested..
Morgan pled guilty to the murder plot on October 24 and is due for sentencing February 27.
One can’t help but wonder if this man would have committed this crime if he received sufficient mental health care after his 2005 return home from Ar Ramadi, which was described as the most dangerous place in Iraq by Time Magazine (2006).
