Fox News hitman — um…commentator Bill O’Reilly gets his inspirations in the middle of the night and considers them divine.
Holy Spirit Batman, O’Reilly has a ghostwriter!
Actually, the Fox Newsman wouldn’t think about specifically divining the Divine but modestly claims that he has certain gifts, “writing and bloviating on television.”
Those were actually his words.
O’Reilly often cites his religion when delivering his commentary on issues. He is a Catholic and after a bitter divorce, he tried to get his wife excommunicated from the Church.
But we digress.
Two important points: Many wealthy right wing pundits seem to regard their constituency as a giant ATM. Folks can run for office and if they find a safe, well-paid band of followers. They often continue to solicit donations to their PACs or hawk their speeches and books.
Popular commentators are a cottage industry in and of themselves. There is a constant stream of products and the push to purchase them.
Back to Jesus. This is just a small part of what Jesus preached about the poor.
1 John 3:17: “But if someone who is supposed to be a Christian has money enough to live well, and sees a brother in need, and won’t help him–how can God’s love be within him ?”
1 John 3:18: “Little children, let us stop just saying we love people; let us really love them, and show it by our actions.”
1 John 3:19: “Then we will know for sure, by our actions, that we are on God’s side, and our consciences will be clear, even when we stand before the Lord.”
Doesn’t seem to jive with a well-orchestrated effort by right wing conservatives to cut food stamps and other social programs while routinely demonizing those in need.
Bill, keep on bloviating about the surfer on food stamps.
