ABC White House Correspondent Jon Karl has been coming under fire for the altered Benghazi emails which were sourced to Republicans. While Karl has refused to retract the story on air, he did release a statement to CNN in response to his involvement in the story.
Clearly, I regret the email was quoted incorrectly and I regret that it’s become a distraction from the story, which still entirely stands. I should have been clearer about the attribution. We updated our story immediately.
Jon Karl has either admitted to falsifying evidence to further scandals in the position of White House Correspondent for ABC or he is taking one for the team to cover for whoever did leak those emails with the talking points to Karl. Karl was brought on board at ABC to provide a perceived balance to what had been accused of being a left-leaning media outlet. However, with Karl they got a staunch Conservative who has a history of sticking to his feelings instead of sticking to the facts. This was a bit outlandish considering that ABC used Karl as their fact checker. Jon Karl’s version of fact checking looks to be a lot like the Tea Party birthers who demanded a birth certificate after falsifying some evidence until the White House finally released them to assuage the Tea Party fear-mongering. Karl presented falsified evidence until the White House brought out the real evidence to assuage the Conservatives and prove how much of a non-issue the scandal accusations were.
