The natives are getting restless. We all knew after they got shellacked in the 2012 elections that internal strife and turmoil within the Republican Party was going to heat-up this year heading into the 2014 mid-terms. Now, thanks to the government shutdown that was on the wish lists of so many House Republicans, we are starting to see just how sharp the divide between the right-wing fundamentalists — The Tea Party — and the moderates really is.
The Tea Party are angry that the world that never existed except in the conservotopias they concoct in their minds is being ripped away from them, causing them to lash out at those in their party who have finally awakened to what happens when you play with fundie fire.
On his show this week, Glenn Beck stabbed Senator Mitch McConnell in the back, revealing that McConnell had called Tea Party-backed Senators traitors to the cause in a closed-door meeting — the content of which was divulged to Beck by an anonymous source apparently.
Though he was clear in saying that McConnell didn’t use the word “traitor” specifically, his source told him everyone in the room knew that’s what he was saying. “FreedomWorks and the Senate Conservatives Fund worked hard to unseat me, and I want you to be very clear on this. If any of you take a dollar from either FreedomWorks or the Senate Conservatives Fund, you’re an enemy of mine,” is how Beck quoted McConnell by way of his source.
For what it’s worth, McConnell’s office immediately responded to the story, calling it false. “The anonymous claim is false. He neither said nor insinuated that,” said a McConnell spokesman of the claims Beck made.
