Score one for sanity, respect, decency, and frankly for humanity. It’s official — Police Chief Mark Kessler is now Former Police Chief Mark Kessler.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock or not on any of the social media sites the last few weeks, you’re well aware by now of a guy named Mark Kessler — who as police chief of Gilberton, PA put out disturbing YouTube videos featuring himself firing several different weapons at targets that were supposed to represent anyone whose political views he didn’t agree with.
Kessler’s videos were tirades and rants about one right-wing talking point or another. They were often filled with thinly-veiled threats both against national leaders — he shot up a scary clown mannequin named “Nancy Pelosi” in one video — or local, fellow citizens who obviously didn’t take kindly to their police chief using taxpayer-funded weapons to make idiotic, dangerous and completely threatening YouTube videos. After pressure started mounting from not just around Gilberton, but from around the country thanks to Facebook and Twitter, Kessler was suspended indefinitely pending the outcome of a review board hearing, which was held Thursday night.
According to NBC News’ accounting of the hearing, some of Kessler’s cohorts came down to show support, openly carrying their firearms of course. But their support in the end wasn’t enough to save the blue-tongued offender’s job, and he was officially terminated by the borough council board.
