Does anyone else get the sense that televangelist Pat Robertson doesn’t realize the camera is not a mirror? The only reason we can think of that he continually says outlandish, insensitive and downright ignorant things on his television show is that he genuinely has no idea that we’re all seeing him. Now, granted he might just not care. Staunch Islamophobes and homophobes often don’t realize there’s anything wrong with their blatantly hateful rhetoric.
So what did ol’ Patty say this time? To mark the anniversary of 9/11 Robertson decided to talk about how the lack of Jesus Christ in our government — by way of our principle of the Separation of Church and State — has made it easy for radical Islam take root. He actually turned his sights on former-President George W. Bush, saying that when he came to the country in the wake of 9/11 and told us not to blame all Muslims, that he was inviting radical Islam into the country. Apparently Robertson’s of the belief that all Muslims are terrorists. We wonder how he’d feel about all Christians being categorized as terrorists, don’t you?
“They believe that anybody who doesn’t submit is at war with them and they are prime targets, and for the Western nations to welcome this fifth column into their midst is just committing suicide,” said Robertson, rounding up each person of the Islamic faith together in one neat little rhetorical package. He went on to say, “…we’ve taken out Bible-reading in the schools and little by little by little we’ve eroded the rights—we keep talking about separation and this that and the other.”
Can there really be any doubt about Robertson’s ultimate agenda to turn this country into a Christian Theocracy?
