How very Christian of them.
A waiter in Overland Park, Kansas was given one hell of a tip after he served a group of Christians at Carrabba’s Italian Grill, where he works. Apparently the server is openly gay, and rather than chastise him for his lifestyle in the open, the group took the oh-so-bold step of writing a message on their receipt, excoriating him for his sexuality. Because you know, in the Bible it says to judge people first, and never yourself, right?
“Thank you for your service, it was excellent. That being said, we cannot in good conscience tip you, for your homosexual lifestyle is an affront to God. May God have mercy on you,” was written on the receipt where usually you’d leave a gratuity to the person who may not even make minimum wage (laborers who work on tips have a different Federal minimum wage than those who do not; it’s lower). So not only did the man who did all the hard work not get any of the socially-accepted reward he was supposed to get for that hard work, instead he got a preachy, pretentious note and a shaming for being gay.
The real kicker in this story? The server displayed more grace than the people who stiffed him on his tip. “The offers to help pay me back are much appreciated,” he’s quoted as saying, “but not at all needed. I’d prefer to let my work ethic and my service do the talking, nothing else.”
Stay classy, Overland Park, Kansas Christians. Stay classy.
