Famed British broadcaster David Frost has died as the result of a heart attack, according to his family. The venerable broadcasting icon was aboard a cruise ship that had just set sail Frost was to present a speech on the cruise. British Prime Minister David Cameron said in a tweet, “My heart goes out to David Frost’s family. He could be – and certainly was with me – both a friend and a fearsome interviewer.” Frost’s family has asked for privacy at this time, so no further details are available at this time.
Frost was the legendary interviewer who sat down with disgraced former President Richard Nixon for a landmark television interview. To that point, Nixon had been infamously guarded and tight-lipped (except when he was recording himself in the Oval Office apparently), and at times he displayed that evasiveness with Frost. However, for the most part, the 12 interview sessions produced the most candid look at Nixon’s fall from grace.
Here now is one of the most famous moments of the hours of interviews Frost did, wherein Nixon apologizes for his actions.
