On the latest edition of Real Time With Bill Maher the outspoken comedian and host had some rather salient advice for the Grand Old Party, should they actually be interested in sustaining themselves over time. They’ll need to attract younger voters, but as Maher as pointed out their current platform of alienating everyone and being militantly pro-gun won’t get the job done.
The nuts and bolts of Maher’s advice is that people like Ted Cruz going on well-publicized hunting trips to shore up his conservative credentials does nothing but speak to the older generation, and that if Republicans really wanted to look like they were embracing of populist issues, they’d be in favor of ending the War on Drugs and legalizing marijuana — an issue that actually does resonate with younger voters.
Maher plied his acerbic wit directly to Cruz, telling him,
“You’ve already proved your total dominion over creatures with brains the size of walnuts. After all, you’re the leader of the Tea Party!”
He told Republicans they’re barking up the wrong tree with guns because with younger voters, “if they want to kill something, there’s an Xbox right downstairs.”
