Recently, a group affiliated with the Koch Brothers released one of the most nonsensical and creepy political ads ever. It was aimed at discouraging young people from buying into the Affordable Care Act. You see, the Kochs and all the other right-wing groups opposing Obamacare know that if youth enrollment in the ACA is great enough, that will help drive success for the law over all. A massive influx of healthy, young insured customers will help keep the prices down despite the other influx of new customers — those with preexisting conditions. So the race to brainwash young people into thinking they don’t need health insurance is underway.
The ad in question seems to imply that it’s the Affordable Care Act that puts government between young women and their reproductive care and not the literally hundreds of bills written throughout the states by conservatives in state legislatures aimed at blocking access to abortions and other services.
The creepy Koch ad featured a Burger King style big-headed Uncle Sam popping his head up from between a young woman’s legs as she was preparing for some kind of personal procedure related to her genitals. With the music and the condescending tone of the ad, it’s hard to imagine why anyone would think that it would make sense or connect with anyone under the age of 60.
The geniuses over at Koch-Blocked have re-cut the video to emphasize the truth about who is really trying to regulate women’s health care, and just who is trying to put more government interference in your personal medical decisions. The re-edited video now rightly points out that Koch-backed entities have worked tirelessly to elect red state governors who have signed laws onto the books that force women to have intrusive and unnecessary trans-vaginal ultrasounds.
