AATTP Interviews A Homeless Veteran — Watch What Happens Next! (Video)

On September 28, Overpasses to Get the Muslim Socialist Commie Atheist Kenyan Un-American Usurper Who Fails Our Racial Litmus Test Out of Ronald Reagan’s Chair  (or whatever they’re called..) came out in force in Cambridge, Ohio!  I’d like to say “tens” of people were there, but we discovered about as many protesters as Bruce Leshan found Truckers in a recent DC rally.

After AATTP interviewed some insane people from Overpasses for Obama’s Impeachment, we ran into a homeless veteran named Frank, who was being studiously ignored by the idiots standing on the overpass holding signs, wailing protestations of the very programs that are designed to help a person like Frank…because those would be Socialism!

Frank was holding a sign that read, “No Job/No Food/No Home,” alongside the Cambridge exit, just a few hundred feet away from the overpass on which the miniscule mass of morose morons protesting that Kenyan who is trying so socialize abortions for gay married couples were loosely assembled.

We approached Frank and asked him how he came to be in his current situation:

“I got bit by a black widow spider back in June and have cellulitis in my right leg.  A lot of companies won’t hire me for that reason.”

Frank does not have medical insurance, but thankfully is able to visit the V.A. hospital for his medical needs–he served in the U.S. Army 1976-1980.  When he worked, he was a laborer–Frank says it was mostly factories and landscaping.  Now he loads trucks at truck stops, hoping to scrape what money he can from the endeavor…and asks for the kindness of others to help him get by.

Sixty-two year old Frank does not have a home.  He sleeps in truck stops, and sometimes–if he is lucky–in a hotel room, as he “moves a lot.”   He says that people are helping him out some, and that he is attempting to pay for a bite to eat or a bus ticket to Indiana, where he can find more work.

Frank, pointing at the Overpasses protesters, asks what is going on:

FRANK:  What is going on over there.  It says “Impeach Obama over there.  What is this?”

INTERVIEWER:  Well, they are a group that is…they think that President Obama is guilty of treason and lots of other nasty things, and they are out here protesting his–they don’t think he’s a U.S. citizen; they don’t think he was legitimately elected.  Of course they don’t have any evidence to back up any of that stuff, which is why we were just talking to them.”

FRANK:  No, I don’t agree with that at all.  He’s a citizen and he was elected.  Because a lot of people didn’t vote–and they want to remain apathetic, Hey! They got no complaint as far as I am concerned  If you don’t vote in the election what gives you the right to complain about the guy that’s been elected President?”

Frank’s story was very touching–so touching that we decided to help him out.  Frank is a man who obviously wants to work.  He has served our country–a country which has, for the most part, abandoned him. He labors hard for what is surely very little pay, just to get by.  Frank deserves better than that.

While could not fix the world that day, We walked Frank down to a nearby gas station, bought him something to eat and drink, and purchased him a bus ticket to Indianapolis, IN.  It is our hope that by getting him to where he wanted to go, we have somehow helped him find the place he needed to be.

Screenshot_39

It is terrifying that we live in a world in which homelessness is tolerated, that even one person must struggle for food.  Unfortunately, this is an issue that will possibly never be fixed in Frank’s–or even our lifetimes.  It is important each and every day to do what we can to make the world a better place, even if it is just for one person.

Safe travels, Frank.  May your journey take you to better places.

This poor vet is one of many. God bless them all. As for that THING in the WHITE HOUSE
he needs to rot in hell. He has destroyed and divided our country. And I do have the right to say this because I did vote.
To hell with those of you who say he has done good things, he is evil! PURE EVIL!

    • Lynn

It’s narrow minded people like you that are trying to divide this country. You should seek some anger management help for that incredible hatred you have been given by someone in your life, or talk radio.

    • John Prager

Yes…catchy movie theater trailer references to our President aside, can you provide any examples of him being evil? Since you called him a “thing” and made sure “White House” was in all caps…does this have something to do with his race?

I am also a Vietnam Veteran and receive disability compensation and medical benefits from the V.A. but I had to prove to them that the illegal war they sent me to fight in was the source of some of my ailments. I am not homeless….. I am retired on my military disability and I use a walker due to back surgery attributed to one too many trips off the end of a rope attached to a helicopter. I hate war. My daughter called this story to my attention because one of her friends is trying to do something about the thousands of our Veterans….. who are lost and messed up mentally and perhaps, MORALLY. I thank my daughter for her fervor on this issue, I thank her friend Jason, I still thank my country, my President, my fellow citizens for standing up for those of us who cannot find a way to maneuver the “system” and use the benefits we earned but I would also add that WAR is not the solution to anything! While I was recovering from bypass surgery several years ago, my wife and I were sitting in a walkway enjoying a sandwich a few days before I was released to go home. Sitting across from us was a young woman with a toddler and a slightly older boy who appeared to be in her late 20’s. She was also sitting with her husband; a young man….. one leg gone from above the knee, the other, below the knee as well as one forearm badly misshapen and fragmented…… 3 prosthetic devices……. age? early twenties……. tears fall at the memory…… and I tried to imagine his future………… WAR SUX……

    • GailP

Mykal, first of all, thank you for your service. Any wounded person, especially a vet, brings tears to my eyes. Our legislators should be ASHAMED of the way veterans are treated in this country. Persons who have served should be treated with respect, honor and distinction. That so many of them are relegated to the alleyways and gutters of this country is a CRIME. As rich as this country is, no one, should be homeless, hungry, in pain, or wanting for basic comforts. Until our government gets its head on straight these abominations will continue. As individual citizens, we can do what we can given our limited resources. I hope blessings shower all those who seek to end the pain and misfortune of their fellow citizens. Your are correct, sir, WAR SUX…ALL WAR.

  • George Wakeman

I think their should be less veterans and more kids in college…these right wing ass hats with all there ignorant wars and these kids enlisting because they have no jobs available to them is a lot of bs…………get out of Afghanistan now ..the latest news is they’re selling there votes for $5.00 this is what our kids are dying for ????

Shouldn’t guys and gals who risk their lives fighting America’s wars get a pension if they survive? Congressional reps do and they rarely fight in wars. They just send guys like Frank.

  • https://www.facebook.com/margaret.brooks.9699 Margaret Brooks

That was a nice thing you did… too bad our government doesn’t help these people out… imagine what that $24 billion they blew on the shutdown could have done!

  • http://westernrambling.tumblr.com Megan

That was just heartbreaking. How is our country so fucked up that a man like that is homeless and unemployed? Good on you all for helping him out!

  • http://gravatar.com/darkwingmantis98 Darkwingmantis

Dude, I live in Terre Haute… there is a fantastic homeless shelter here that turns no one away. I was there myself. God speed sir

    • http://FB A Lanois

Dearest ones, If the government would do for their Veterans as they should, there should be no need for Shelters to lend a helping hand to the many who are without and living day to day. They proudly served their country, and now their country abandons them…SHAME.

  • artisanrox

God bless AATP (Jason and John), and Frank in good and sweet ways. <3

  • saradabest

The Tea Party is full of corporate bobbleheads who wouldn’t know their head from their A** if it killed them. I mean, seriously, who ignores homeless veterans?

    • George Wakeman

I hate that statement “homeless veterans”, like it’s ok to ignore homeless non veterans…just because your a veteran doesn’t make it bad to be homeless, it should be bad for everyone. And no not worse because they’re a veteran.

  • Jim

the sad thing is that the tea party and republicans love service members when they are in the armed forces but once they get out due to the end of thier contract, injury, or retirement they act like they didnt exist. thank you for helping a vet in need hopefully he finds what he seeks.

  • Adam Colquitt

The thing I wondered was is if the tea party preaches about helping us out and the lower class out, then why wouldn’t they take the time out of their own agenda to help this man? It seems like all they care about is getting their way and nothing else.

  • GailP

I appreciate the help you gave this vet. I hope everyone who sees a veteran in need can be as generous. You might not be able to foot the bill for a bus ticket, but maybe a cup of coffee or a burger. I read a story about a woman who keeps pop-top cans of food in her car to give to homeless persons…maybe some of us could do the same or similar for vets. We gotta help one another…

I also appreciate the fact that you continue to help us see the Tea Party for what it is.

    • John Prager

      We love you, too!

  • Socrates

As a Vet (Beirut & Grenada), I humbly appreciate folks who step up like this to help those of us in need. God Bless You & Frank and the millions of homeless Vets in need.

    • John Prager

      Thank you for your service.

  • http://gravatar.com/kathygrisham kathygrisham

You guys are to be commended for helping out a veteran. You lifted my soul by helping him.

    • John Prager

      He lifted ours, too!

  • http://twitter.com/Bonnieinchgo Bonnie S (@Bonnieinchgo)

Thank you, John Prager! That was a very generous and kind thing to do. What country do we live in that allows our veterans to be in this situation, and worse, have legislators that are attempting to cut what little benefits they, and others in need, require so desperately.

    • John Prager

I was just holding the camera :) Jason was the one who took the initiative to do this. It was one of the single most wonderful things in which I have had the privilege of being included. I really hope Frank is doing well, because he was an awesome guy!
