Mary Ann Manning, 61, was a woman with “strength, determination and stubbornness” according to her obituary. The Dublin, California woman had used those qualities to fulfill her last wish in life — to dance with her son at his wedding.
Mary Ann, who was terminally ill with breast cancer and wheelchair-bound in the days leading up to her son Ryan’s wedding, achieved her goal. She was helped out of her wheelchair by family members to dance with Ryan to Somewhere Over the Rainbow at his wedding reception, three days before she succumbed to her cancer.
After the dance which drew cheers and applause from the guests, Mary Ann was helped back to her wheelchair by family members.
Her daughter Kristie posted a video of the dance to YouTube saying of her mother:
“Mary Ann Manning lost her battle with breast cancer just 3 days after this dance. She held on with all her might to give her son this last gift. It’s really the epitome of a mother’s love. She now joins her other baby boy, who passed 4 years ago, in heaven.”
