With Hillary Clinton running for president, the idea of a woman as president is supported by a great many feminists and women nationwide. However, she isn’t the only one on the stage that has fought for women everywhere.
Bernie Sanders is notorious for fighting for the rights of, well, everyone. His fight for the rights of others (including women) has been lifelong. Notably, he has a 93% rating with the American Civil Liberties Union for his pro-civil rights voting record and a 100% rating with the Human Rights Campaign for his pro-LGBT rights stance. He’s never evolved on these issues. He’s supported them before it was the popular thing to support them.
So, he definitely supports the women of America. If you don’t believe it, here are five powerful quotes that prove so.
1. He’s Pro-Choice
We are not returning to the days of back-room abortions when countless women died or were maimed. The decision about abortion must remain a decision for the woman, her family and physician to make, not the government.”
– Sanders in a Huffington Post op-ed written in 2012.
2. He Strongly Supports The Protection Of Women
While the incidence of domestic violence has been reduced, too many women and girls are still suffering from domestic violence and sexual abuse.”
3. He’s ALWAYS Supported The LGBT Community
Of course all citizens deserve equal rights. It’s time for the Supreme Court to catch up to the American people and legalize gay marriage.”
4. He’s Been The Strongest Supporter Of Ending Income Inequality
A land where millionaires and billionaires have never had it so good while tens of millions struggle just to survive is not what Christianity is about. It’s not what Judaism is about. And it’s not what America is supposed to be about.”
5. He Fights For Equal Opportunity and Equal Treatment of All
When we stand together, we will always win. When men and women stand together for justice, we win. When black, white and Hispanic people stand together for justice, we win. When straight and gay people stand together for justice, we win.”
